What is Love: Love is Painful

When you choose to love be ready for its consequences. Love is not all roses, sometimes it has thorns that may hurt you and cause you to bleed. Let me tell you a short story of how I experienced love and pain.

Honestly, it was a time when I experienced pain from the people around me. They continually disappoint me and hurt me in so many ways; broken promises, sharpest words, actions the cut me down, and other things that could hurt me. At that moment I was actually hoping for love. I actually prayed for it I remember saying to our Father in heaven “Lord kahit saglit lang, gusto kong maramdaman na importante ako, na special ako at mayroong nagmamahal saakin outside my family”. My struggle to find happiness from all the pain continues until he came.

7 months of being with him were actually one of the most memorable days I had. Nope, we are not in a relationship or in a mutual understanding. No label in short, but I felt so important and loved. I actually enjoyed the time I spend with him, but nothing stays forever.

Things started to mess up. Pain has entered without permission, it took over my heart and slowly killing me inside. I was drowned by a bunch of unanswered questions, so I tried saving myself but that failed too. Questions were left unanswered until he asked me to talk to him. I agreed, but he never came.

Love is sweeter when it started unexpectedly, but most painful when it also ended unexpectedly. It was a story that wasn’t told but left a big scar in me. It was the very first time I experience being loved and the first to put my heart into tiny pieces that is almost invisible.

When we choose to love, we are also letting pain enter our hearts. Love has its tail and it is pain. Before you love, ask yourself. Are you ready to be hurt? If you are, you are free to love, but if you’re not giving yourself peace by choosing to know yourself more and strengthening your mind through observation and learning and when you are strong enough to handle pain, love can never destroy you.
